We're seeing RED!! Final Week!

This photo of our youngest family member stands out from our recent Passata Day.  It captured the essence of what Passata Day means to our family. It's about family spending quality time together, the passing down of skills and traditions from one generation to the next, it's preserving an age old Italian tradition and it's about working together young & old to achieve a shared goal.   If you would like to see some more photos from our 2013 Passata Day, just click on our Facebook link.  This photo was also featured on Grossi's Ombra's"Friends of Ours" blog :) Check it out!

The Tomato Season has almost come to an end. It's been a long hot summer, but it hasn't stopped the many thousands of families over Melbourne committed to family Passata Days. It seems that there has been a real resurgence in the number of families and friends going back to, or starting up the age-old Italian tradition of preserving tomatoes.   We hope that you will join us next year, as we all do our bit to preserve the Italian Passata way - whether you process them raw, boil or blanch.  It's your method, your heritage, your tradition and your history in the making!  Embrace and celebrate it! It doesn't matter which nationality you are, age or gender.  Who wouldn't love fresh and sweet tasting tomato sauce all year round? Here's a quick YouTube clip featuring The Biasotto Annual Passata Day for an insight into the many different methods and family traditions that is "Passata Day!".

To end the season we are offering MASSIVE discounts for all our equipment and supplies for making tomato sauce.  Start planning for next year and take advantage of the many special discounts on offer now. More specials are also in store.

This years vintage is looking like a real bumper season, and much welcomed by farmers and winemakers after a couple of dismal vintages the last couple of years.
Perfect weather conditions seem to have yielded great quality grapes this year and early picking.

If you haven't purchased your grapes yet, give us a call at either our Clayton
(9574 8222) or Reservoir Store (9460 2777).  We are only too happy to recommend good quality grapes in your area.

Don't forget we have extended our trading hours for March and April 2013.  We will now be open from 9.00am until 5.oopm Monday to Friday, from 9.00am until 3.oopm on Saturdays and 10.00am until 2.oopm on Sundays.  Our extended hours will also accommodate our home winemakers crushing their grapes on the weekends.  The best time to measure your sugar and PH levels are on the same day as crushing, so be sure to bring a sample in for testing. Sample testing is a FREE service offered and encouraged at all stages of the wine making process. Let your family and friends know if they are making wine too.

As promised, a heap of new products have hit our shelves.  These include spare parts for the Bialetti Coffee Makers, wooden bread & serving boards, pizza accessories, new pasta machines, brewing equipment and grains, and wine making equipment. More new products are on the way and I'll keep you informed as they arrive.

The March/April edition of Italianicious Magazine is now available.  Have you picked up your copy yet?  This edition is very special to Home Make It because  we're in it and we're thrilled!!!!! Look for a feature article titled "Mixing The Old & New". It's a great read covering the history of 'Home Make It' and wine-making techniques, including embracing modern techniques with a traditional craft.

If you are thinking about a new hobby in wine-making, then come along to our One Day Wine Making Workshop at our Reservoir Store on the 16th March, 2013 from 2.30pm until 5.30pm.  Places are limited so don't miss out.   Mention this email when booking to only $80.00.

We have also commenced a 6 Day Wine Making Workshop which will be held over 6 weeks) at our Reservoir Store. Check out some of the photos from the evening last week for the grape crushing on our Facebook Page.  They had a great night.  It's not too late to join this group as they go through the remaining stages of the wine making process.  Call Pina on 9460 2777 to secure your place.

Other than our Wine Making Workshops, additional Food & Beverage Workshops are on hold until after the `vintage' or wine season.  We will post the timetable and details of our Autumn Food and Beverage Workshops very soon, including our very popular Sausage and Salami Workshops.

The 2013 Darebin Homemade Food and Wine Festival, dates have been set for the week commencing the 13th May, 2013 with the main event being held on the 18th May, 2013.  Make sure you put it in your diaries.
